Powder Coating is an effective solution for finishing metal products due to its robust performance, durability and cost-efficiency. In contrast with conventional liquid coating, powder coating has no liquid elements on it but rather uses dry powder in the process. There are three steps in powder coating process: pre-treatment, powder application and curing.
Pre-treatment process involves the removal of oil, dirt, lubrication greases, metal oxides, welding scale and degreasing materials in preparation for powder application. This is an important step in the process as impurities in the materials can affect the quality of coating finish. In the powder application process, an electrostatic gun is used to apply powder coating to the object. Several powder colours can be applied allowing colour blending and create special effects on an object in a single layer. After the powder coating is applied, the object is then exposed to elevated temperature for curing. The curing process allows the object or material to reach its full properties like its full colour potential.
At Furphy Foundry, we generally use the Dulux® range of powder coat colours and finishes for our standard colour selection.
We find our customers select mainly from the DuluxR DuralloyR range which provides high value and has an extensive colour range available, including the ColorbondR range. For fun, bright and decorative colours we find our customers generally use the Dulux AlphatecR range of colours. Based on what we have seen being used we have put together a standard colour chart for you to easily select your powder coat colours. Don’t worry if you don’t find what you want we also use powder coat from other suppliers and ranges or we can custom match any colour using two pac epoxy paint which is also the preferred choice for additional environmental protection.
