When Clive Wilson walked into Furphy Foundry for an interview, Ronald Regan was the president of the USA, Joh Bjelke-Petersen was running for Prime Minister and the top movie was Three Men and a Baby. That was 30 years ago.
Today, there are literally hundreds of pieces of park furniture and infrastructure around the country which have passed through Clive’s hands on the way to their ultimate destination. For 30 years, in a wide variety of ways, Clive has contributed hugely to the ongoing success of Furphy’s, and to delivering Furphy customers the excellence they expect.
Furphy’s Managing Director, Sam Furphy, recently paid tribute to Clive’s amazing contribution to the company, presenting him with gifts and a certificate.
Throughout his time with Furphy, Clive has worked in almost every department, starting as a labourer in moulding, and moving onto the fettling department, where his work involved cleaning up castings.
He worked in painting/dispatch for 10 years, has specialised in timber preparation, but today is a jack-of-all-trades, mostly working in a dispatch role, ensuring Furphy products and packaged or assembled to customer’s requirements.
Clive said that when he started, foundry work was more manual than today, and the challenge of adapting to the latest technology, plus the variety of work, has made work at Furphy’s extremely satisfying.
Seeing the result of his work in situ, in particularly custom work, brings a sense of satisfaction, and Clive said he was also grateful to be involved in the development of the Mettros restrooms.
