Just a short walk from Victoria’s iconic Brighton Beach with its golden beach lined by colourful bathing boxes is the popular Dendy Park.
When the local Bayside Council decided to masterplan a complete overhaul of the centrally-located park, Furphy Foundry was on hand to contribute their considerable urban design skills.
With Furphy Products installed in the same park several years before, Council had the full assurance to call for repeat business.
Dendy Park is one of the most significant outdoor recreation areas in Bayside. The Council identified that the park was dominated by sports fields, but lacked pedestrian paths, play facilities and areas for socialising.
A range of improvements worth over $5 million were planned to provide facilities for park users now and into the future, and after ground stabilisation and a two stage construction process, the works were recently completed.
Furphy supplied two custom designed Picnic Settings, constructed with 100% cast aluminium, and hardwood slats. The classic-look aluminium frame was powder coated, and the sets bolted to the slab with an anti-vandal fastening system.
The design of the settings complimented other new elements built in the park as part of the upgrade, including new toilet facilities and a playground.
Landmark Products supplied a custom-built timber shelter with Colorbond roof to cover the settings and beautifully complimented the new public space.
Dendy Park is the venue for Bayside’s annual Christmas Carols in the Park as well as many regional sporting events that include school athletics and cross country.
Five community sporting clubs use the grounds including Brighton District Cricket Club, Brighton Little Athletics Club and Brighton Soccer Club. It also caters for a range of other uses such as dog walking, fitness groups and has children’s playgrounds.
Councillor Felicity Frederico said it was great to see a vision to improve Dendy Park, which was a jewel in the crown of Bayside and was one of the most used public places in the municipality.
