Located approximately 50 kilometers south west of Launceston in Tasmania, Deloraine District Hospital is a 20-bed acute care facility providing General Medical and Palliative Care along with Allied health and Community Care services. Using the Deloraine Hospital Auxiliary funding it was decided to replace the older outdoor seating as they were starting to deteriorate and required constant maintenance.
Isabelle Vescovo is the Administration Support Officer at the hospital and was tasked finding 10 appropriate seating replacements. After some time searching, getting quotes and looking at material and finish specifications it was decided that the best value seats that suited the hospitals aesthetic, location and requirements were the Furphy Foundry Woodgrove Seats.
These seats compliment the peaceful surroundings but importantly provided a seat that elderly patients the ability to easily get out of. Isabelle states “the armrest on the seats make it easy for the patients to get themselves up” and “staff feedback was very positive and the patients are really enjoying their use”. They were installed between rooms for patients to easily have access to them and use them on a regular basis where they can enjoy the fresh air and outdoor garden surrounds.
These Woodgrove Seats were manufactured from steel and hot dipped galvanised providing low maintenance and a long life cycle in this location. They were then powder coated in “paperbark” colour to complement the existing hospitals roof and timber cladding. Wood Plastic Composite (WPC) was chosen for the seats slats, finished in Mod Wood Jarrah smooth finish. WPC was chosen to help lower ongoing maintenance that can now be directed elsewhere at the hospital.
We would like to thank Isabelle, the staff and patients at Deloraine District Hospital and Community Health Services for their support and wish them the very best with their seats.
