Sitting on the border of New South Wales and Victoria is the Moama and Echuca Botanic Gardens. With Furphy’s unparalleled experience in customising products, we were asked by Murray City Council to manufacture and supply three fully customised benches for the Botanic Gardens. The seat design drawings were supplied by the city council and our task was to carry out the idea into reality, it’s very contemporary with no traditional seat leg supports which gives these seats the appearance of floating.
All three seats are 2500mm long and the supporting frame (including back rest brackets) constructed from mild steel then hot dipped galvanised, which supports low maintenance and longevity. The slats were made from sturdy Ironbark timber to match the arbours colour tones, and sized individually at 65mm x 42mm. To ensure all seats would fit with the existing structures in ground saddles and avoid any on-site installation complications, we had to specifically locate the existing bolt points with little to no tolerance before manufacture. This process made it very easy to attach them to the existing arbour which resulted in a quick on-site installation.
As you can see this is a fantastic result and whole area blends the same aesthetic.
