Since we started manufacturing all our products at our Foundry using a clean energy source, we achieved a 47% reduction in our electricity usage and saved significantly on our power bills in a 12-month period. We modernised our casting plant with the implementation of a new electric induction furnace and were able to slash our gas bill to zero. The efficiency in our operations also drastically improved and jobs were created as a result.
This has been possible due to a successful grants application for the Business Recovery Energy Efficiency Fund in 2021, created to help businesses reduce energy costs and slash emissions. And on Friday 3 November 2023, Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio toured our Foundry to acknowledge the project’s success, inspect the site and equipment and meet key staff.
Furphy Infrastructure Group Managing Director, Sam Furphy said receiving the grant had assisted in changing the Foundry’s operations and its contribution to a cleaner and greener environment. “We have reduced our CO2 footprint and have created a significantly safer and worker friendly environment,” he said. “The project has exceeded the intended outcomes with Furphy’s eliminating gas use on site, while improving our manufacturing processes, and it’s an important step towards our goals of becoming carbon neutral. We appreciate the assistance that the grant provided and have first-hand seen the success of the project, it was a significant change to our business but one that has been extremely positive.”
